Privacy Policy

At Yarra Ride, we strive to improve the quality of life for the millions of people who need accessibility to transportation by facilitating access through transportation. This privacy statement describes the data that Yarra Ride collects from users and drivers, as well as how we utilise that data to match users with drivers and enhance our offerings.

Scope of this Privacy Policy

Yarra Ride (“Yarra Ride,” “we,” “our,” and/or “us”) values the privacy of individuals who use our application, websites, and related services (collectively, the “Yarra Ride Platform”). This privacy policy (the “Privacy Policy”) explains how we collect, use, and share information from Yarra Ride users (“Users”), comprised of both Yarra Ride riders (“Riders”) and Yarra Ride drivers (including Driver applicants) (“Drivers”). Beyond the Privacy Policy, your use of Yarra Ride is also subject to our Terms of Service.

 Information We Collect

Information You Provide to Us

Registration Information. You provide us with your name, email address, and phone number when you create a Yarra Ride account.

User Profile Information. You can build a Yarra Ride Profile when you join the community to share information about yourself. By completing a profile, you may assist Yarra Ride assess whether you have any special transportation requirements. Your profile will always include your name and, for Drivers, your profile photo. Learn more about how to manage who sees your profile in the sections below.

Payment Method. Your card information will be shared with a third party that manages payments for us when you add a credit card or other payment method to your Yarra Ride account. We do not maintain complete credit card details on our servers in order to protect your financial information.

 Communications. If you get in touch with us directly, we might learn more about you. For instance, when you get in touch with our customer support team, we’ll get your name, email address, phone number, any messages or attachments you send us, as well as any other details you choose to include.

Driver Application Information. If you choose to become a member of the Yarra Ride driver community, we will also need information about your date of birth, home address, Social Security number, vehicle information, auto insurance information, and in some states, additional business licencing or permission information. In order to protect the Yarra Ride community, we share this information with our partners who assist us by doing background checks on Drivers.

 Payment Information. We save data on Drivers’ bank routing numbers, tax information, and any other payment information submitted by Drivers to ensure that they get paid.

Information We Collect When You Use the Yarra Ride Platform

Location Information. The main goal of Yarra Ride is to link Drivers and Riders. We require your location in order to accomplish this. We get your location when you launch Yarra Ride on your mobile device. While the app is open or closed, we might also gather precise location data from your device. We also get information if you mark particular places as “home” or “work.”

Identifying drop-off and pick-up locations, connecting Riders with available Drivers, and recommending destinations based on prior travels all require the use of your location information. Additionally, if the situation calls for it, our safety team may use and divulge location data to help safeguard the security of Yarra Ride Users or a member of the general public. In addition to the reasons mentioned above, Yarra Ride must know the drivers’ location and the distance they have travelled in order to calculate fees and insurance. In order to detect promotions or service changes in your area, we may gather your location when the Yarra Ride app is not open if you grant us permission through your device’s settings or the Yarra Ride app.

Device Information. The IP address, web browser type, mobile operating system version, phone carrier, phone manufacturer, application installations, device identifiers, mobile advertising identifiers, push notification tokens, and, if you register with your Facebook account, your Facebook identifier are just some of the data that Yarra Ride collects from Users’ devices. It also collects information about the device’s operating system and manufacturer. We gather mobile sensor data from Drivers’ devices (such as speed, direction, height, acceleration, or deceleration) to enhance location accuracy and examine usage habits.

Usage Information. We automatically receive information about your interactions with the Yarra Ride Platform, such as the pages or other content you view, your actions within the Yarra Ride app, and the dates and times of your visits, to help us understand how you use it and improve it.

Call and Text Information. We collaborate with a third-party partner to facilitate phone calls and text messages between connected Riders and Drivers. We receive information about these communications, such as the date and time of the call or SMS message, the phone numbers of the parties involved, and the content of any SMS messages. We may also monitor and/or record the contents of phone calls made on the Yarra Ride Platform, such as those between Riders and Drivers, for security reasons. You will be informed that your call may be monitored and/or recorded, and by continuing, you agree to allow Yarra Ride to monitor and/or record your call.

User Feedback. At Yarra Ride, we want to ensure that our users are always having a good time. At the end of each ride, riders and drivers can rate and review one another. We receive ratings and reviews and, as explained below, we provide Riders with information about Drivers’ ratings and reviews and vice versa.

Address Book Contacts. If you grant Yarra Ride access to your device’s address book via your mobile platform’s permission system, we may access and store names and contact information from your address book to facilitate invitations and social interactions that you initiate through our Platform, as well as for other purposes described in this privacy policy or at the time of consent or collection.

Information from Cookies and Similar Technologies. We collect information using “cookies,” tracking pixels, and other similar technologies to learn how you navigate the Yarra Ride Platform and interact with Yarra Ride advertisements, learn what content is popular, and save your preferences. Cookies are small text files that web servers store on your device to store basic information and assist websites and apps in recognizing your browser. Session cookies and persistent cookies may be used. When you close your browser, a session cookie is deleted. After you close your browser, a persistent cookie remains and can be accessed each time you use the Yarra Ride Platform. To change your cookie settings, go to your web browser(s). Please keep in mind that if you delete or refuse to accept cookies from us, you may be unable to use certain features of the Yarra Ride Platform.

Information We Collect from Third Parties

Third Party Services. 

When you choose to register for Yarra Ride or somehow link your Yarra Ride account with a third-party service (such as Facebook), we may receive the same type of data from those services that we collect from you (described above).

Third-Party Partners. We may receive additional information about you from third-party partners, such as demographic data, payment information, or fraud detection information, and combine it with other information we have about you.

Access Programs. If your company, university, or organization participates in one of our access programs, we may receive information about you from your participating organization, such as your email address. We may also allow your participating organization to request a ride on your behalf, in which case they must provide us with your name, phone number, and pick-up and drop-off locations.

Background Information on Drivers. Yarra Ride uses third-party partners to conduct driving records and criminal background checks on Drivers, and we receive information from them, such as publicly available information about a Driver’s driving record or criminal history.

How We Use the Information We Collect

We use the information we collect from all Users to:

  • Connect Riders with Drivers;
  • Provide, improve, expand, and promote the Yarra Ride Platform;
  • Analyze how the Yarra Ride community uses the Yarra Ride Platform;
  • Communicate with you, either directly or through one of our partners, including for marketing and promotional purposes;
  • Personalize the Yarra Ride experience for you and your friends and contacts;
  • Send you text messages and push notifications;
  • Facilitate transactions and payments;
  • Provide you with customer support;
  • Find and prevent fraud; and
  • Respond to trust and safety issues that may arise, including auto incidents, disputes between Riders and Drivers, and requests from government authorities.


 Additionally, we use the information we collect from Drivers for the following purposes related to driving on the Yarra Ride Platform:

  • Sending emails and text messages to Drivers who have started the driver application process regarding the status of their application;
  • Determining a Driver’s eligibility to drive for Yarra Ride
  • Notifying Drivers about ride demand, pricing and service updates; and
  • Calculating and providing Yarra Ride’s auto insurance policy and analyzing usage patterns for safety and insurance purposes.

How We Share the Information We Collect

 Sharing Between Users

Sharing between Riders and Drivers. Riders and Drivers who have been matched for a ride can view basic information about each other, such as their names, photos, ratings, and any other information they have added to their Profiles. Riders and Drivers who connect their Yarra Ride accounts to Facebook will be able to see mutual Facebook friends while on the ride. Drivers see the pick-up location specified by the Rider. Riders can view a Driver’s vehicle information and real-time location as they approach the pick-up location. Weekly, Riders’ ratings of Drivers are shared with Drivers. We de-identify the ratings and feedback, but it is possible that a driver could identify the Rider who provided the rating or feedback.

Although we facilitate communication between Riders and Drivers in order to arrange a pickup, we do not share your actual phone number or other contact information with other Users. If you report a lost or found item, we will make every effort to connect you with the appropriate Rider or Driver, including sharing actual contact information with your permission.

Sharing Between Yarra Ride and Third Parties

API and Integration Partners. We may share information about your use of the Yarra Ride Platform with a third party if you connect to the Yarra Ride Platform through an integration with a third party service. We may share your information with our third-party partners in order to learn more about you. We may also share your information with third-party partners in order to create offers that are relevant to you.

Third-Party Services. The Yarra Ride Platform may provide you with access to other websites, products, or services over which we have no control (for example, we may give you the ability to order aood delivery from a restaurant from within the Yarra Ride app). If you use these services, we will provide information about you to the third party so that they can provide the service to you (for example, we would give the restaurant your name, phone number, and address to drop off the food). We are unable to comment on the privacy practices of these third parties, and we recommend that you read their privacy policies before deciding whether or not to use their services.

Service Providers. We collaborate with third-party service suppliers to perform our services on our behalf, and we may share your personal data with them to help and can provide the Yarra Ride Platform, including everything described in Section above.

Access Partners. If you take part in an access program and charge a ride to your organization’s billing method or credits, we will provide information about your use of the Yarra Ride Platform to your organization’s account holder, which includes ride detailed information such as date, time, charge, and pick up and drop off locations. If you create a Business Profile, you will be able to designate each ride as a business ride at the end of the ride. If you do so and your organization has a corporate account with Yarra Ride, we may share information about your use of the Yarra Ride Platform with your organization, such as ride details such as date, time, charge, and trip region. It is your obligation to update your Business Profile with new information if you change organizations. (Please be sure to double-check and adjust your designation settings as needed.) We will start sharing the ride details with your expense account if you incorporate your account with an expense platform (such as Concur).

Other Sharing. We may disclose your information to third parties in the following circumstances:

  • While negotiating or in relation to a change of corporate control such as a restructuring, merger or sale of our assets;
  • If a government authority requests information and we think disclosure is required or appropriate in order to comply with laws, regulations, or a legal process;
  • With law enforcement officials, government authorities, or third parties if we think doing so is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of the Yarra Ride community, Yarra Ride, or the public;
  • To comply with a legal requirement or process, including but not limited to, civil and criminal subpoenas, court orders or other compulsory disclosures.
  • If you signed up for a promotion with another User’s referral or promotion code, with your referrer to let them know about your redemption of or qualification for the promotion;
  • With our insurance partners to help determine and provide relevant coverage in the event of an incident;
  • To provide information about the use of the Yarra Ride Platform to potential business partners in aggregated or de-identified form that can’t reasonably be used to identify you; and
  • Whenever you consent to the sharing.


Email Subscriptions. You could always just unsubscribe from our commercial or promotional emails, but we will continue to send you transaction processing and relational emails about your Yarra Ride Platform account use.

Text Messages. You can choose whether or not to receive commercial or promotional text messages from Yarra Ride. You can also choose not to receive all texts from Yarra Ride (including transactional or relational messages,) Opting out of receiving all texts, on the other hand, may have an impact on your use of the Yarra Ride Platform. Drivers can also opt out of driver-specific messages by replying to a driver SMS with STOP. Text START in response to an unsubscribe confirmation SMS to re-enable texts.

Push Notifications. You can turn off push notifications in your device’s settings. Please keep in mind that turning off push notifications may have an impact on how you use the Yarra Ride Platform (such as receiving a notification that your ride has arrived).

Profile Information. While your name will always be visible to Drivers, you can remove any additional information from your Profile at any time if you don’t want Drivers to see it. Drivers’ names, ratings, profile photos, and vehicle information will always be visible to riders.

Location Information. While you can prevent your gadget from wanting to share location data at any time by changing the settings in your device’s operating system, Rider and Driver location is critical to the Yarra Ride Platform and we cannot provide our services to you without it.

Editing and Accessing Your Information. Logging in to your account settings and profile allows you to review and edit certain account information (Drivers may edit additional information through the Driver portal). If you wish to cancel your Yarra Ride account, please send an email to info@yarraride.com. If you choose to close your account, we will deactivate it for you, but we may retain information from your account for a specific period of time and disclose it in accordance with our practices under this Privacy Policy for account holders that are not closed. We may also retain information from your account to gather any fees owed, resolve disagreements, navigate difficultly, analyze utilization of the Yarra Ride Platform, help with any interrogations, prevent fraud, impose our Conditions of Service, or take other actions as needed or allowed by law.


Data Security. We are dedicated to safeguarding the Yarra Ride community’s data. But although we take the appropriate precautions to safeguard your data, no protective measures can be guaranteed to be fully secure, we are unable to guarantee the safety of your information.

Children’s Privacy. Yarra Ride is not intended for children, and we do not intentionally collect personal data from children under the age of thirteen. If we discover that a child younger than the age of 13 has provided us with personal details, we will take measures to delete that relevant data. Changes to Our Privacy Policy. We reserve the right to make alterations to this Privacy Policy at any time. If we make any significant changes, we will notify you via the Yarra Ride Platform, email, or other means. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy on a regular basis to stay informed about our privacy practices. You agree to this Privacy Policy and any updates we contribute to making to it as long as you use the Yarra Ride Platform.
